Although it's now 4 years old, Blizzard's World of Warcraft retains its number 1 position as the most popular MMO (massive multiplayer online) game.

First released in 2004 in the U.S. and 2005 in Europe the popular game now has over 11 million loyal followers around the world. The latest extension, Wrath of the Lich King, attracted thousands of eager players when it was released at the same time in North America, Europe, Chile, Argentina and Russia. The previous popular extension, The Burning Crusade, sold around 2.4 million copies in the first day of its release. This record was broken by the latest release which sold 2.8 million copies in the first 24 hours.

Being a WoW fanatic is not a cheap hobby. In order to play Lich King players will have spent good money on an upgrade from the original WoW, plus Burning Crusade and then pay the monthly subscription of £8.99 before shelling out another £24.99 for this latest extension.

So what is the secret to World of Warcraft's outstanding success? There has been no shortage of challengers for the lucrative number one position as the most popular MMO game. Yeah, this is not a family film – but it is pretty funny.

Back when Bill Murray was still funny (meaning pre- “Lost in Translation”) he made this gem of a film. I especially love Carol Kane’s performance as the ghost of Christmas Present, and yes, it’s still kind of fun to laugh at what we thought was stylish in the 80s. The story is, of course, Dicken’s Christmas Carol – but with many more wisecracks.

4 – The Santa Clause (1994)
Scott Calvin (Tim Allen) is reading his son Charlie a Christmas story one night when he hears something on the roof. After frightening Santa to death, Scott must take over as the new Santa. Charlie likes the fact his dad is Santa, but Scott doesn’t believe it — until his hair turns white and he puts on a couple pounds. Can Scott keep his new secret from his unsuspecting family?

This leads us to the number one Christmas movie to watch in 2008:

1 – A Christmas Story (1983) starring Peter Billingsley
All Ralphie wants for Christmas is a Red Ryder BB gun. He perseveres, despite the admonitions of all the adults around him who say, “You’ll shoot your eye out with one of those, kid”. A story told from a kid’s point of view to which young and old can relate.

So, sit down, grab your favorite holiday treat, and settle in for a long winter’s night. I hope these films bring a little joy to you and yours this year – Merry Christmas!

PlayStation Home is a new social networking site, it’s free to use for Playstation 3 owners and it allows them to create an avatar, create your own apartments, join other players in online games, chat and soon the ability to stream music and video.

The release of their virtual clubhouse comes after news that Sony has announced that they are planning on several thousand job cuts. However, their new social networking community, Playstation Home, could help to bring in some extra needed cash. Ideas have been floating around that Sony can start to sell new clothing and apartments for the players and also sell advertising for the various billboards and screens that are displayed around the Playstation Home.

One big reason why the PlayStation Home has been released now is to try and sway some of the potential customers over the Christmas period. Sony is trying to compete against Microsoft’s latest Xbox Live update which allows Xbox 360 owners to create their own avatars and play social games online.

However, will the new social networking community be enough to change the minds of buyers? I don’t think so. Simply because of this new feature, I don’t think it would sway the minds of buyers considering the Xbox 360 already has all of this, plus the price tag of the Playstation is alot higher than the Xbox.

By looking around, you can get an XBox 360 with 4 games and 2 wireless controllers for around £130, but if you’re after a Playstation, the by searching a bit you can get the PS3 with only 3 games for a massive £270.

Although the whole idea of the PlayStation Home is good, and it’s great for current PS3 owners who want to interact with their games more, I doubt it will encourage more buyers, unless they reduce the price of the console. So, good try Sony, but I don’t think you’ll have much luck.
